Why our boudoir photography sessions last 60 delicious minutes

Some boudoir photo studios in San Diego offer two-hour or longer intimate photography sessions. At Intimate Photography, we feel that an hour is ample time to create at least 45-60 beautiful images for our clients to select from. Throughout our one-hour session, clients are still energetic and having fun. She has been in the hair and makeup session for an hour, followed by wardrobe selection for about 45 minutes, making the whole magical process about three hours in duration.
Every session includes three clothing changes and our sexy silhouette poses, providing a wide variety of boudoir images to view at their one-on-one presentation appointment, about one week after the session. If you look closely at those advertised extended sessions, they usually include only one or two images and purchasing more images is quite expensive. Why spend two hours in a photography session if you are offered only a few poses?
Most of our clients purchase 12-30 images artistically presented in an album. Should the client desire more photographs, our packages are very reasonably priced to accommodate any budget. Intimate Photography is not the most inexpensive boudoir portrait studio in Southern California, and we are proud of the high-quality work we produce for each and every client. We are known for our exceptional portraits, friendly and efficient customer service, and high quality photo albums. Our high end albums are unmatched by any studio in San Diego! Feel free to visit our studio for a complimentary consultation to see the variety of album styles, image collections, and canvases and acrylic wall portrait options that will complement your beautiful portraits.

Professional make-up and hair styling for your boudoir photo shoot?

Why do you need a professional makeup artist/hair stylist for you boudoir session?

Should you have your makeup and hair done by a pro for a boudoir photo shoot? At Intimate Photography San Diego we offer professional makeup and hair services to make your intimate photos the best they can be. The professional touch will give your boudoir photos that edge that will set them apart from all others.

I am happy to say I have worked with the team at Intimate Photography San Diego for over two decades. Barbara is a real pro and she strives to make every boudoir photography shoot look like a magazine spread. I am happily part of that process.

It takes 3 equal parts to make a sensational boudoir photo: makeup, lighting and photography.

If you have not been photogenic in the past, just wait until we get you in the makeup chair! You will see the best version of yourself, and probably learn some new tips along the way.

Even if you do your makeup well for every day, you may not know how the camera sees the human face. The camera sees you very differently than the naked eye. We adjust your makeup so you will be “camera friendly”. Subtle highlights, contouring and camouflage are all techniques we use to give your face more dimension and structure. A boudoir photo is just one dimension and people are 3 dimensional, so we have to create that dimensional look for your images.

You will look like you and can be as natural or glamorous as you wish. Most women comment on how they look like themselves, just more polished and of course, glamorous. It is all about the glam right?

Boudoir photography needs a matte finish on the skin. Shine translates as oil or perspiration and will make a hot spot on your face in photos. We use a matte foundation and micronized powder to give a velvety smooth look to the skin. Your pores will be invisible or greatly minimized.

Then there is the hair…I think you know the difference here. A pro can get volume and fullness that you may not be able to achieve on your own. A boudoir photo shoot needs a lot more than you might do every day. It is about a 25% difference; you need that much more volume to look natural for your images. We can lift and boost the hair so that it creates the soft glamour we are looking for.

Everyone arrives nervous. Boudoir photography is probably out of your comfort zone, and that is part of the adventure. It is my job to make you feel calm and comfortable. When you see how fabulous you look, you will feel so much better about being photographed. The face looking back at you will be beautiful, confident and ready for her close up!

Relax and Have Fun During Your Boudoir Photography

Relax and have fun during your boudoir session…

A common question I get on the phone when clients reserve their boudoir session is: “Do all women feel nervous like I am? I’ve never done anything like this before.” I let them know that almost all of my clients are initially nervous and don’t know what to expect. It’s their first boudoir session and they don’t yet feel confident that they can look sexy.

We have a short consultation before we begin the photo session and they can select poses that they feel comfortable with from our sample albums. We talk about what their partner compliments them on—most men love curves so we emphasize them. We also discuss our signature silhouette poses that are nude but shadowed and very flattering.  Everyone love these sexy, mysterious poses! But I never, ever pressure my clients into doing them. If they are unsure, I suggest that we can wait until the end of the session if they want to pose for them.

Once the woman has her make-up and hair done, we do her wardrobe selection, and she feels much more relaxed and ready to start the session. I coach each client all along the way so all she has to do is look sexy. By the end of the session, my clients are relaxed and having fun!
